According to the Chambre d'Agriculture of Reunion, the production will be reduced by 75% compared to 2016/2017 season. That means, in the best case scenario, the air-freight exportations will not exceed 100 tons, while the export volumes have reached a record level last year (almost 900 tons -  http://www.fruitrop.com/en/Articles-Web/Studies-Analysis/2017/Litchi-Reunion). Indeed, producers should firstly supply the local market due to the strong competition between local and export market: in full season, the wholesale prices for loose fruits will be around 2 euros / kg while the export contracts for graded, sorted and conditionned fruits will just offer 1 euro more. This crop forecast can be revised downward until December due to the weather conditions, in particular the strong rainfalls (risk of fruits shattering).
