The beginning of the year was marked by a moderate overall supply from all the suppliers. In Florida, a good balance was established in early January because of the demand, though quiet, being in step with the small available supply (still 30 % shortfall). So Floridian grapefruit prices maintained high levels. As for the Mediterranean sources, Turkey’s early fall and the near-absence of Florida benefitted Israeli and Spanish grapefruits. Sales gathered pace in February, especially because of the implementation of promotion programmes. Prices strengthened from mid-January, in particular for the Israeli grapefruit which is suffering from an unfavourable export exchange rate this year, thereby reaching record levels for the period.
