Improvement at the end of the month thanks to a moderate supply

The month of February was mainly marked by the end of Ecuador’s trade-off favouring Europe. Ecuadorian volumes fell below average (- 15 %) for the first time in several months, greatly easing the market! Similarly, although Colombia started its seasonal increase, volumes received were 11 % less than in previous years because of the drought caused by El Niño. Costa Rica was also down due to the impact on production of the rains in September/October 2018, and the cool temperatures in December/January. As regards Africa, Ghana maintained historically high levels (43 % above average) and Côte d’Ivoire embarked on its seasonal increase in week 7 (+ 3 %). However, the overall supply remained 8 % below average, with other origins unable to offset the chronic Cameroonian shortfall. Finally, incoming shipments from the French West Indies were stable overall throughout the month.

Demand, without hitting the heights of 2018, was in step with the supply. However, from week 9, an upward price trend was observed, with levels creeping toward average.
