A big leap in June 2020

June 2020 saw a very big leap for the US banana market, with volumes up by 13 %. This was the same trend as in Europe. In the first half, the US market consumed some 2 140 000 tonnes of bananas, i.e. a rise of 3.7 %. Over twelve months, there was a modest increase, with just 1 %, especially due to a poor second half of 2019. Regarding the origins, the first half of 2020 saw the leaders come back strongly: Guatemala + 2.9 %, Costa Rica + 8.2 % and Ecuador + 2.2 %. We should also note the bounce-back by Colombia, which returned to growth on the US market, with a 17.4 % rise. The organic segment’s market share climbed to more than 11 %.
