Prices down slightly in October

Although the overall supply remained near average, incoming shipments gradually progressed throughout the month. On the one hand, Colombia reached its peak in October, with slightly below-average volumes (- 4 %). On the other hand, shipments from the African origins, more particularly from Côte d’Ivoire, came to the fore, with slightly below-average levels (- 4%). Cameroon also registered slightly below-average performances (- 2%). Meanwhile, shipments from the French West Indies subsided slightly, though they were still 19 % above average. Regarding the dollar supply, Costa Rica embarked on its seasonal fall, with slightly below-average shipments. Only the Ecuadorian giant maintained stable shipments at slightly above-average levels. Regarding sales, the school holidays in Western Europe, combined with a new wave of Covid in the East, somewhat slowed down sales from the end of the month. Hence green banana prices dropped (-€0.16 on September), though they remained 3 % above average, and +12 % on 2020.
