There was a distinct downturn in the supply to the EU27+UK in February 2021, with 47 000 t less, 8 % down on February 2020. The shortfall will doubtless be a bit smaller once all the Member States have sent their final figures, but it will remain substantial. Just for once, it was the dollar group of origins which had the heaviest impact on the trend, with a 10 % downturn in February, after dropping 8 % in January. Over the first 2 months of 2021, the dollar zone top three (Ecuador, Colombia and Costa Rica) were down by 5.6 %, 10.7 % and 10.8 % respectively! Even the secondary origins fell, such as Mexico which was down by 73 %. Indeed, only Panama made a rise (+3.7 %). This spectacular fall by the dollar origins was the consequence of losses due to the cyclones in late 2020, and the current trade-off in favour of the US market. Similarly, the ACP group contributed to the fall in the European supply, with a decrease of 6 %. In Africa, Ghana saw a heavy fall. In South America, Belize collapsed by 44 %. Among the leading ACPs, only the Dominican Republic retained a positive score, with + 3 %. Angola doubled down over one year, though for the moment its volumes remain anecdotal. European production went against the flow, with a rise of 8 %. On a 12-month sliding scale (March 2020 to February 2021), despite a big fall at the start of the year, the net supply across all origins maintained a 1 % increase, reaching 6 596 000 t.
