Tight market

The sea-freight mango market had a tight July. The supply was provided by multiple origins (Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Senegal). These shipments, changeable in terms of variety and quality, came up against a flat demand. The highly disparate and changeable weather conditions over a large part of Europe had a big effect on the demand level. The distribution sector downgraded the mango to a secondary level in its supply policies, especially since the availability proved uneven and variable. In the middle of the month, the quality of produce from Senegal and the Dominican Republic was deteriorating, further complicating the market conditions. We could also note a big dichotomy in sale prices for Senegalese mangos, because of the predominance of small-sized fruit, unbalancing the incoming shipments. Larger-sized fruit was valued at the highest prices in the ranges stated above. At the end of the month, the overall supply was inflated by the first Israeli batches, whose prices were more or less aligned with those of its competitors, given the pressure of volumes already available.

There was also a marked fall in demand for air-freight mangos in July, especially since Mexico shipped large quantities. The quality of Mexican fruit this year proved uneven, with big variations in terms of coloration and stage of maturity. The quantities shipped by Mexico clearly weighed down on the sales conditions, often leading to prices on the profitability threshold. In this context dictated by this dominant origin, the fruit from other origins adopted the same price footing, and even in some circumstances lower levels. The Israeli campaign began in mid-July with the Aya and then Maya varieties. It was not until the very end of the period that Kent made its appearance.
