Numerous logistical disruptions from Brazil

Brazil provided the bulk of the European mango supply throughout November. This period was marked by numerous logistical disruptions, leading to stop-start shipments out of Brazil. Strike movements by hauliers impeded and delayed the loading of several ships. The discovery of narcotics mixed in with the merchandise also blocked the container loading operations in Brazil. These various events led to irregular incoming shipments into Europe, which weighed down on the sales conditions. At the start of the month, rates proved to be stronger, as this coincided with a period of smaller incoming shipments. The following weeks brought more difficult conditions due to the arrival of larger volumes, caused by deferred tonnages from previous weeks. The proportion of Kent gradually increased at the expense of the other varieties exported by Brazil. Kent represented 34 % of incoming shipments at the end of the month, as opposed to 19 % at the start of the period. Spanish shipments quickly wound down with the last Osteen in the first half of November, with Keitt taking over in the second half. These products sold at stable prices (€7.00-€8.00/box).

The air-freight mango market remained very mixed in November. The combined tonnages from Brazil and Peru weighed down on transactions. Good quality merchandise sold at relatively stable prices, though at a lower level for Brazilian fruit, whose coloration and maturity were less homogeneous than for Peruvian mangos. Conversely, the small-sized Peruvian fruit struggled to earn value. Wide price ranges were applied, especially in the second half-month, when the supply exceeded the demand (€3.50-€6.50/kg).
