Spanish mango – Season 2021

After a rather favourable spring for flowering and fruit setting, weather conditions in southern Spain proved more difficult at the beginning of the summer. Several intense heat waves, which were reported in the European media, caused many fruits to fall or die. This phenomenon, no doubt accentuated this season, has been recurrent for several years. Given the extension of the orchards and, by the same token, the increase in the productive potential of Andalusia, these climatic contingencies should not strongly affect the forecasts for the Spanish campaign. The 2021 season should therefore be in line with previous years, i.e. between 20,000 and 25,000 tonnes. Osteen fruit remains the spearhead of the origin with an increase in available volumes from mid-September onwards, reaching its peak in the first half of October. Quantities will then decrease until mid November. Kent mangoes should be available over a shorter period from mid-September to mid-October. The later Keitt mango season will start in mid-October and continue into November. Finally, the earlier Irwin fruit has already been available on the market since the end of August and exports are expected to continue until the beginning of October, but in smaller quantities.
