According to preliminary figures, the consumption of Grapefruit in the EU27+UK would have fallen by 22% in 2021 with only 203 000 tons consumed between January and November. This situation is even more worrying at the beginning of the 21-2 season because the drop is clear for all the main European markets. In detail, France, despite being the leading consumer, is among the worst performers with a decline of -20% compared to 2020 and the drop falls to -31% for the period from September to December. The German market will fall sharply by 25% between 2020 and 2021 (-16%/ four-year average). The United Kingdom is also suffering from a drop in consumption of around 19% compared to 2020 and -38% between September and December. Italian consumption is down by 10% in 2021 and -22% compared to the four-year average. Finally, consumption in Scandinavian markets is down by -23% compared to 2021.
