Slight price recovery in August

The overall banana supply remained rather limited. Incoming shipments from the dollar bloc were in their seasonal trough, with Ecuador and Colombia in a low production period, just the same as Costa Rica. Shipments from the French West Indies were also scaled back due to the seasonal fall. It was only the African supply that took an upturn at the end of the month, with slightly above-average performances. In parallel, demand remained rather quiet over the first half, because of the school holidays. Sales picked up towards the end of the month, especially in Northern Europe, helping prices strengthen somewhat. In this context the Cirad barometer climbed by €1, reaching a level 19 % above average and 2 % up on 2022.
