In autumn 2022, the rather fraught atmosphere made it hard to assess how the Indian Ocean litchi trading campaign would proceed. The Russo-Ukrainian conflict was causing a substantial increase in energy costs, which was being passed onto consumer goods, generating inflation which could only perturb the operators in the industries concerned. Upstream, the production conditions seemed favourable, with every exporter country reckoning on sending bigger volumes. How would the European market react? This was the unknown in the still delicate commercial equation, caught between the investment required and the expected results.
