A controversial advertising campaign

At the 2017 International Agricultural Show ( Salon International de l'Agriculture), held from February 25 to March 5 2017 in Paris, the banana producers of Guadeloupe and Martinique (UGPBan) launched an advertising campaign with the slogan "French bananas, better than organic, it's possible". The campaign, which was relayed by the national press, aims to point out the methods of production and certification of organic bananas from third countries which, according to the press release, do not conform to European requirements in terms of production regulation. The news was not welcomed and especially by some French organizations such as the INAO and the Organic Agency, guardians of the certification. They required the interruption of the campaign. The Judge of the Court of First Instance of Paris ordered the UGPBAN to stop immediately its communication campaign on March 1st. On March 3rd, a new press release was published by UGPBan defending their position.

For controversial reasons, this campaign has the advantage of making mention of a problem of dysmetry of treatment between production areas, which is highly damaging for both producers and consumers. The debate is therefore open!
