New Zealand is not only an apple and kiwi country. The record results of the 2016-17 campaign show that the avocado industry is continuing to come to the fore, although it remains miniscule compared to the apple and kiwi industries, the country’s two export giants. Volumes bound for the international market, with more than 80 % going to Australia, exceeded 27 000 t for the first time. The industry should not stop there. The ambition is to quadruple sales by 2023, especially through tripling productivity, still very low.
