Given the European and North American shortfalls, the 2013 apples and pears counter-season was expected to be good, and so it was. It should even be ranked among the few vintage years of recent times, with a record export level in volumes (+ 9 % on the 3-year average for apples, and + 8 % for pears), but also in value, helping cover rising production costs upstream. The rise is primarily attributable to the good health of the traditional markets, whereas results are more disparate on the emerging markets.
