Absolute record !

According to French customs figures processed by Cirad, banana consumption in France in the first four months of 2017 beat the record of 2014 and reached 225 600 tonnes (+ 21% compared to 2016).

The month of April 2017 marks a new supply record at just over 60,000 tonnes. Consumption from May 2016 to April 2017 amounted to 583,500 tons, which is very close to the absolute record of 586,200 tons in the period April 2013 to March 2014. In the absence of French production (hurricane Matthew at the end of 2016), the ACP and dollar origins are benefiting from this exceptional dynamic, either through direct imports or via introductions from other EU Member States (MS). Redirections from France to other MS are down sharply: - 11%.
