Rates recovering strongly

August saw a reversal in trend, already perceptible in late July. The quantitative shortfall from early August led to a strong recovery in rates, stabilising at between 6.00 and 8.00 euros/box across all varieties and origins. The moderate and delayed shipments from Israel and limited shipments from Brazil created this situation of abrupt under-supply, in a context of demand hampered by the holiday period, yet still significant. The relative delay to the Spanish campaign accentuated the lack of produce. While the Dominican, Puerto Rican and Senegalese campaigns finished earlier.

The air-freight mango market followed the same trend, with the supply from Mexico and Senegal dwindling from mid-August. Rates did not see a spectacular surge, but remained strong and high, in particular for Kent. The other varieties offered by Israel traded at slightly lower but steady prices.
