A rather positive end-of-year trend, thanks to restrained supply

In December 2021, the seasonal fall from Colombia and Costa Rica to below-average levels was barely offset by the rise in Ecuadorian volumes. Hence the dollar supply was slightly below average. Furthermore, after the November peak, the cumulative volumes from the African origins (Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and Cameroon) saw a distinct fall, to 9 % below the two-year average. Regarding the French West Indies, shipments continued their downward trend (- 9%). The social upheaval at the beginning of the month heavily disrupted banana transport, and shipments to the Mainland in week 49 were practically zero. As for sales, despite the traditional fall in activity in the run-up to the end-of-year festivities, the limited overall supply helped green prices strengthen slightly (€11.47/box), though they remained 5 % below average.
