Prices on the increase throughout the month

In February, the overall banana supply exhibited a shortfall. Colombia and Costa Rica were in the midst of their production troughs, with below-average volumes because of unfavourable weather during the previous months. Due to historically high freight prices, despite its shipments peak, above all in spot volumes, the Ecuadorian supply proved to be distinctly below average and incapable of offsetting the shortfall from the other dollar origins. The African supply was also in a low production period, with volumes slightly below average (-2%). Shipments from the French West Indies were stable (-2%). Furthermore, sales remained fluid. In this very sparse fruit context prices continued to climb, with the Cirad barometer registering 12% above average.
