Tunisian Maltaise Orange

Indeed, like all Mediterranean citrus producers, Tunisia was not spared by the unfavourable climate at the time of flowering and setting. It also had to face a historic drought last summer. As a result, according to first estimates, Maltese orange production is expected to fall by a further 24% compared to the short 2021-2022 season, from 93,000 tonnes to only 71,000 tonnes in 2022-23. Nevertheless, the export potential to Europe is expected to be maintained at levels similar to the last two seasons (between 10,000 and 12,000 tonnes). Harvesting began at the end of last week and the first arrivals are expected in the port of Marseille around 10 January.
