A record campaign, with the rise set to continue

The Israeli cultivation area is seeing indisputable growth, with planted areas going from 6 800 ha in 2014 to 9 200 ha in 2019. This increase relates both to Hass and green varieties. The latter remain highly profitable on the local market, because of high yields and prices. In addition, this year the alternate bearing phenomenon, which generally has a big impact on Israeli yields, was a positive factor.  Hence total avocado exports (Hass and green varieties) to the EC market were well above average (+ 23 %). The Hass campaign finished at high levels (around 32 000 tonnes), 25 % above average. There was a similar trend for the exported green varieties (Ettinger and Pinkerton): the campaign ended at around 37 500 tonnes, a level well above average (+ 20 %). The Israeli campaign ran along slightly longer than last year, with an extra two weeks. Hence thanks to the structural growth of the Israeli cultivation area, the underlying trend will continue in the years to come: exports will continue to increase, and the trading calendar should be extended.
