Morocco was the only one of the top three Mediterranean avocado supplier countries to see a slight increase in exports in 2022-23 (47 000 t). This rise highlights the huge expansion in the cultivation area over recent years, reaching approximately 12 000 ha. This exports growth trend should continue in 2023-24, at a considerably higher tempo than in the previous season. The weather, though far from being ideal, did not have too much impact. Agricultural water availability is of course a subject for concern, in particular in the zone situated south of Moulay Bousselam, where irrigation is based solely on groundwater. Nonetheless, it remains under control at present. In this context the potential could increase in fairly significant proportions (15 % to 20 % according to some professionals). Shipments will remain practically entirely aimed at the EC.
