The consolidated customs data for the whole of 2023 confirm the stability of the European pineapple market. Imports into the EU27+UK for 2023 amounted to 880 000 tonnes, a similar figure to 2022. And stability prevailed in both the EU27 and the United Kingdom, where volumes were unchanged from the previous year. This performance matched the poor levels seen in 2020, when the sector was facing major consumption problems. However, since 2022, the supply has been lacking, undermined by a fall in productivity in producer countries and even more marked trade-offs between markets. Whereas the European market was stagnant at a rock-bottom level, the US market saw continued growth, with imports up by 4 % from 2022, setting a historic record of 1.2 million tonnes in 2023!
