The mango market remained swollen in December

The mango market remained swollen in December, given the large incoming Brazilian shipments, the accumulation of which led to stocks forming. The rapid progress made by Peruvian shipments from mid-December onwards only aggravated the market saturation. Nonetheless, from the second week of the month, consumption gathered pace significantly, albeit without managing to absorb the volumes available. The supply imbalance in terms of sizes and quality helped stop rates from strengthening.

The air-freight mango market remained mixed, and fairly quiet at the beginning of the month. The combined supply from Brazil and Peru exceeded the demand level. Peruvian shipments, mainly comprising small sizes, struggled to earn value. In the run-up to the end of the year, demand became more insistent, enabling rates to strengthen. The intensity of demand dipped after the holidays, and sale prices, with price differences widening further, according to the fruit size and quality (stage of maturity, coloration, etc.).
