Yet again in the red

The highly modest supply bounce-back in May 2022 (+ 1 %) did not enable the European market (EU27+UK) to make up for the very poor results of the last three months (February to April). Over the first five months of 2022, the supply (imports + European production) was down by 4.3 %, i.e. 126 000 tonnes down on the same period of 2021. Over five months, all the origins were in the red, especially the dollar origins (- 4 %). Only Panama and Guatemala saw a rise. All the other major origins were down, in particular Ecuador (- 9.7 %). Regarding the ACP, we can note some fine performances by Cameroon and Belize, while the other origins were struggling. Over the last twelve months (June 2021 to May 2022), the European supply (expanded to include the UK) dipped by 1.8 %, dropping just below 6.5 million tonnes.
