Banana monitoring - EU

The very modest rebound in supply in May 2022 (+ 1%) does not allow the European market (EU27+UK) to make up for the very poor results of the last three months (February to April). Over the first five months of 2022, supply (imports + European production) fell by 4.3%, i.e. 126 000 tonnes behind the same period in 2021. Over five months, all origins are in the red, particularly the Dollar origins (-4%). Only Panama and Guatemala are making progress. All the other major origins are down, particularly Ecuador with a 9.7% drop. On the ACP side, we note the fine performance of Cameroon and Belize, while the other origins are struggling. Over the last twelve months (June 2021 to May 2022), European supply (extended to the UK) has fallen by 1.8% and is just below 6.5 million tonnes.
