The 2022-23 campaign attests in more than one respect that the European pineapple market is continuing to suffer from the fall-out of the pandemic. The negotiations scheduled to start at the end of the year between Costa Rican producers and their European partners are already set to be complicated, and they cannot fail to affect relations between European importers and the supermarket sector - since more than ever this remains the main trading channel for the still very substantial volumes produced by Costa Rica. Despite a fall in its exports in 2022, Costa Rica remains by far the number one supplier to the European pineapple market, with a market share of more than 88 %.
