Although the authorised list is expanding every year, with the development of Drosophila suzukii management techniques and the ban in France of the use of Dimethoate, the French Ministry of Agriculture extended its suspension on cherry imports from certain European Union countries and certain third countries (notification published in the Official Journal of 11 May 2019). Hence while Argentinean and Chilean cherries, and fresh Turkish cherries, are authorised to enter France, bitter cherries (aimed at the processing sector) from Turkey and cherries from other third countries, and therefore the USA and Canada, still cannot provide an end-of-season top-up. Three EU countries are also subject to bans; these are Austria, Romania and the Czech Republic.
