Still cherished by Asia

The Chilean cherry campaign is now well underway, and looks to be promising. The planting frenzy has not been quenched, fanned by unfailing Asian demand. The initial estimates are pointing to exports of more than 200 000 tonnes, a figure which has been revised (- 10 to - 15 %) because of late frosts. However they should be very close to that mark, i.e. an expected rise of at least 10 % from 2018-19. Shipments should reach their full potential in weeks 50 and 51, with a peak in January in the run-up to the Chinese New Year. We should recall that the bulk of volumes is bound for the Asian markets, which last year took in 92 % of Chilean cherry exports.
