Strawberry getting established, but apple and pear market still heavy

Slightly behind schedule compared to previous years, the strawberry is gradually getting established on the shelves as at the end of February. Because of cool temperatures at the beginning of the year, the Spanish campaign began one week later than usual. The potential is slightly greater than in 2018 (+ 2 to + 5 %), because of the increase in cultivation area, and volumes should be better distributed over the season. The French Gariguette is steadily making its appearance thanks to the arrival of fine weather, and should reach its peak from late March-early April as usual.

As for pip fruits, although apple sales remain decent, stocks are historically high compared to previous years because of the record harvests in 2018. With regard to the pear, the arrival of the Southern Hemisphere supply is swelling existing stocks still further. However, prices at present remain stable overall.
