After ten years’ uninterrupted growth, lime imports to the EC market were down. They reached a total of 150 000 tonnes for 2019, i.e. approximately 5 % less than in 2018. This drop can be explained in particular by the fall in imports from Mexico (-29 % on 2018), which the increased volumes from Brazil and Colombia (the number 1 and 3 suppliers to the market, respectively) did not manage to offset. Conversely, lime imports into the USA were up by 5 % in 2019, with approximately 643 818 tonnes, due to the significant growth in Colombian volumes (+ 54 %) and Mexican volumes (+ 5 %).
