According to initial estimates, Hass production from “Flor Loca” is 35 % bigger than in the 2019-20 campaign. The potential for the following flowerings, better known as “Aventajada” and “Marceña”, is expected to be 18 % higher than in 2019-20. This prospective record campaign is due mainly to orchard expansion and particularly favourable weather conditions during flowering and fruit-setting. However, the US market, the main outlet for Mexican fruit, has been idling since the OOH sector was dealt a body blow by the health crisis. In August, while the supply to the US market was similar to 2019, prices were 25 % lower! In this context a more pronounced trade shift to the European market could come into consideration. The opening of a new shipping line connecting the port of Veracruz with Rotterdam in just 12 days could also contribute to increasing the flow of Mexican volumes to Europe.
