The initial information released by Freshuelva shows that Anadalusian growers remain very much the driving force on the berries segment (11 700 ha in Huelva in 2019-20, i.e. + 2 % on 2018-19). Surface areas should expand further, especially on the West Coast of Huelva, enabling the campaigns to start early. There should be a particularly considerable increase for the raspberry, with the planted area expanding by 7 % (2 300 ha), and the planting of a variety which has been locally developed, and is therefore well-suited to the pedo-climatic conditions. Strawberry production should continue to regain ground (6 217 ha, i.e. + 2 %), with some early varieties (Primoris, Fortuna) and some new Rociera plantations. Conversely, the blueberry is treading water with an increase of just 1 % in surface areas (3 089 ha), though there should be no lack of volumes, with plantations established two years ago entering production. The blackberry is losing some ground (145 ha, i.e. - 9 %).
