Brazilian mango

For several years now, Brazil has been increasing its presence on the European market at the beginning of spring. This movement, which occurred at the time of the traditional supply gap between the Peruvian and West African campaigns, is growing each year. It greatly increases the competitive pressure between mango supplier countries. It is true that Brazil exports Palmer, Tommy Atkins and Keitt mangoes, while the other origins offer Kent mangoes, which are more popular on the European markets. It is nonetheless true that the substantial increase in volumes weighs on transactions at a time when the arrival of seasonal fruit is developing. The influx from Brazil has disrupted the marketing of the last batches of the Peruvian campaign and above all the start of the campaign in West African countries, led by Côte d'Ivoire. The commercial pressure resulting from the development of Brazilian shipments and the lengthening of the Peruvian season is further compressing the marketing of West African fruit, whose seasons are already highly concentrated because they are limited from the end of May by health risks. Will the Latin American steamroller eventually get the better of West African mango exports?
