Indian Ocean harvests just as early

The 2021-22 litchi campaign enjoyed good conditions overall. The early start by most of the Indian Ocean origins, as in the previous campaign, did lead to some modifications for each of the origins. The early harvests from Reunion and Mauritius resulted in the campaigns ending quicker, sometimes hampering sales at the height of the trading period. Madagascar, thanks to its well-adapted logistics, was able to take advantage of being early. As for South Africa, its later arrival prevented a direct confrontation with the main supplier to the European Union, Madagascar. Its small involvement in the first part of the campaign was offset by shipments from neighbouring Mozambique. While the recurrent earliness in recent years represents an advantage for trading before the end-of-year holidays, it also leads to greater qualitative fragility of the fruit at the end of the period.
