The pineapple market has just been through a particularly favourable and stable period in terms of prices charged for spot sales. It has been a long time (2015 and 2016) since spot prices were doing so well. So how is it that the operators, both growers and importers, have mixed memories of the past twelve months? Why do they feel that this campaign, despite the price levels charged, left a rather bitter taste? Could it be that the raised prices paid to Costa Rican growers, and the good rates on the spot market, were just a facade, a kind of Pyrrhic victory?
