The grapefruit market remained satisfactory and under control throughout the summer. However, sales slowed down, especially for small sizes, because of the school holidays and marked competition from summer fruits. A high peak of incoming South African shipments (12 % above average) came in June, and stocks formed. However, volumes waned steeply from July, until August. The South African export potential was revised downward in July, back to a level comparable to a normal year, or even lower (category 2 fruits sent to the industrial sector). The origin continued to ship a high proportion of large sizes (32/35). Despite the stocks accumulated in June, the slowness of demand and the abundance of large sizes, some balance was maintained. Apart from some price concessions to limit accumulation of stocks, especially for the large sizes, rates remained strong, with above-average levels.
