European grapefruit market

The South African grapefruit availability should be limited this month. On the one hand, total cumulative exports to all destinations (248,000 tonnes in week 35) are up 20% on the previous 4 season averages. On the other hand, cumulative volumes for the European market show only a small increase (+4%/average; 97,000 tonnes). Moreover, taking advantage of the production deficit of the winter origins, these imports were largely concentrated at the beginning of the season, from May to June. At the same time, the Mexican pomelo campaign should be light due to unfavourable weather conditions caused by a particularly active hurricane season. As a result, European supply is expected to be late and limited. Therefore, prices are expected to remain high.
