Madagascan litchi

"Bis repetita placent"! The Madagascar litchi marketing campaign has just ended. Like the previous campaign, its results seem positive. It is already possible to establish an initial assessment. In terms of volume, Madagascar's exports are back on the path of growth, even if it is measured. In terms of volume, shipments to European markets have increased slightly from 14,240 tonnes for the 2020/21 season to 14,570 tonnes for this last season. Benefiting from a good early harvest and satisfactory fruit quality, Malagasy litchis were sold quickly during the end-of-year festivities. The extent of marketing was more concentrated, particularly due to the simultaneous start of export campaigns by air and the scheduled loading of conventional ships. The logistical adaptation was particularly judicious to supply the markets at the most favourable times for the product to be promoted in the mass distribution channels. Sales prices have certainly declined as in previous years, but have remained at more sustained levels. The challenge of marketing lychees was not obvious, however, given the general sluggishness of the markets and an atmosphere still overshadowed by the Covid pandemic.
