If the banana production of Martinique and Guadeloupe had a lucky escape from Irma, it is not the same for Hurricane Maria. This category 5 hurricane, the 4th of the season after Harvey, Irma and José, would have devastated the whole banana sole in Guadeloupe. In Martinique, losses are to varying degrees, with a very high incidence in the north of the island (100% estimated losses) up to 30% in the south. In total, the losses on this island would be close to 70%.
Hurricane Maria continues its trajectory in the Caribbean arc, and is expected to arrive in the Dominican Republic on Thursday September 21st evening.
