Banana consumption on the US and Canadian markets slowed down. There was a 0.6 % fall over the first two months of the year, but the trend turned around in February with a + 2.5 % bounce-back. A review of the 1st two months shows that Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico and Colombia scaled back to a greater or lesser extent. The number one, Guatemala, stabilised its exports. It was practically only Costa Rica which saw a rise, with a massive + 7.9 %. We can also note that Panama made its big comeback to the North American market, with a tenfold increase in its shipments over the 1st two months of 2020. Organic’s share climbed to 10.7 %.
