A reduction in exports in prospect.

According to ASOEX's first estimates, Chilean exporters are preparing for an overall drop in exports in 2022 due to the drought. The clementine remains the most affected variety, with an expected export deficit of around -35% compared to the 2021 season (45,000 tonnes expected). In contrast, the drop-in exports of late varieties of small citrus fruits (mandarin) should be more moderate and only -5% compared to last season (120,000 tonnes expected). For the other citrus families, total exports of lemons are expected to fall by around 11% (90,000 tonnes) compared to 2021, while those of oranges are expected to fall by -13%, with 90,000 tonnes forecast for 2022. In addition to the difficult climate, the increase in logistics costs (sea freight) is proving to be a limiting factor. However, the distribution profile of shipments should remain similar to past seasons with the US as the main export market (87% of exports).
