European production forecast apple and pears 2022

During the presentation of the European apple and pear harvest forecasts, Prognosfruit announced a 1% increase in the apple harvest compared to 2021 with a volume of 12.168 million tonnes, the harvest is also up by +9% on the three-year average. The outlook is therefore optimistic, and the sector will have to adapt to several phenomena such as rising production costs, unusual weather conditions, inflation and the difficulty of finding seasonal workers. The pear harvest is estimated to be up 20% year-on-year to 2.077 million tonnes, mainly due to increased harvests in Italy and France, which have announced a doubling of their harvests compared to 2021. The year 2021 was a very special year with a sharp drop in the harvest. This pear harvest is also up by 5% compared to the average of the last three years.

The next edition of Prognosfruit will take place in Trentino, Italy from 2 to 4 August 2023.
