Plant sales in 2015 once again showed the vitality of the South African citrus growing industry. They achieved a record level of approximately 5 million individuals, up by more than one million from 2014 and approximately 1.5 million up on the four-year average. As in previous years, two varietal groups stand out: late easy peelers, with Nadorcott and Tango on their own representing more than half of planting (with Valley Gold, Or and Nova far behind), and the lemon (primarily Eureka). The transition to a more restrained planting rate has been confirmed for the orange, with the other families remaining on the sidelines, despite a slight recovery for clementine.
