Ecuadorian banana

The social movement in Ecuador, which lasted 18 days after breaking in mid-June, caused heavy disruption to the banana loading operations. The dizzying inflation which has hit the country over the past several months, with in particular fuel price increases and rising costs of inputs affecting all the production sectors, has triggered a major protest movement nationwide. Several motorways were blocked in the provinces of El Oro, Guayas and Los Rios. There was a practically immediate impact on shiploads in weeks 24 and 25. Approximately 1 900 containers are reported to have remained in place. The shortfall in the Ecuadorian supply to the EC market, already in place since the start of 2022, should further widen with the shipments in weeks 27 and 28.
