The Spanish avocado industry, created in the early 1970s, is now among the world’s leading exporters, with shipments of approximately 40 000 to 50 000 t/year. Spain is the only country in the EU to produce significant volumes on the European continent, thanks to the special climatic conditions of the Andalusian coast.
