This was revealed by the statistics published by BCS Oko Garantie. Exports in 2015 exceeded 190 000 t, up by more than 30 000 t from 2014. Growth should not stop there: according to SENASA (the national phytosanitary protection service), surface areas are expanding by approximately 20 % per year, reaching 6 000 ha in 2015. Northern Peru enjoys cultivation conditions particularly favourable for organic banana production (absence of black sigatoka, dry climate). Peruvian bananas are also 70 % Global Gap and 70 % Fair Trade certified.
