By a decision published on 26 April, the European Commission has decided not to renew the temporary ban on imports of Argentinean citrus fruits into the EU market. As a result, imports can resume from 1 May 2021. The ban was imposed in July 2020 after the interception of several consignments of lemons showing signs of Black Spot, a quarantine disease in the European Union. In order to limit the risks as much as possible this season, the Argentina’s National Service for Health and Agri-business Quality (SENAS) has put in place new traceability procedures and controls prior to the shipment of goods. The European Union remains the main export market for Argentine lemons, with 119,000 and 120,000 tonnes imported in the last two seasons.
