Jalisco avocado

Although Jalisco's proportions are still far from those of Michoacán, this recent export pole is now among the leaders on the world market. With 120,000 t exported in 2020-21, it is in third place behind Michoacán and Peru, but ahead of Chile, which has suffered from an essentially cyclical drop in production during this campaign. Growth will continue in 2021-22 with an increase in the harvest evaluated by the professionals at around 15%, linked to the start of production or the development of young orchards. The distribution of volumes by destination should hardly change, with the EU27+UK remaining the main destination (around 40% of volumes in 2020-21, i.e. a little over 46 000 t) ahead of Asia (34% of volumes, mainly destined for Japan) and Canada (around 30% of volumes). Negotiations on the long-awaited opening of the US market seem to be progressing. However, if it occurs, the consequences are likely to be very limited given the early production calendar of this origin (export peak from August to February), especially as the opening is likely to be gradual and to apply only to certain production areas at first.
