Throughout March, the overall Costa Rican Sweet supply remained very limited. Heavy rains at the production stage, as well as higher demand from the North American market, contributed to reducing availability on the European market. The rather listless demand often struggled to absorb the small volumes on the market. However, rates maintained a fairly stable level, thanks especially to the various promotions which helped get stocks moving. At the end of the month, Easter demand was nothing exceptional either. The operators, who did not commit to promotions, really struggled to clear their stocks.

Throughout the month, the air-freight pineapple market remained buoyant as it was considerably under-supplied. The MRL spot inspections had two considerable consequences on the market. Firstly, they contributed to disrupting the supplies from Benin and Ghana, and secondly they reduced the coloration of the fruits across all the sources. Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire were the only sources to retain a regular presence. The arrival of a cargo ship (30 t) from Cameroon during Easter week, when the market was considerably under-supplied, helped the operators behind this operation to earn good value for the batches placed on the market. The Sugarloaf supply was limited, selling at high prices of between 2.00 and 2.20 euros/kg.

The Victoria supply, fairly limited at the beginning of the month, rose rapidly in anticipation of Easter. The bigger and more balanced Mauritian supply sold on a fairly steady footing. The more unbalanced Reunion supply saw its price range widen in line with the volumes available.
